Time is a commodity that we always need more, but there is never enough of it. Have you ever thought “I just lost an hour of my life and I will never get it back”? You have probably had that thought many times. There are a lot of things which can be categorized as ‘time wasters’ in our daily lives, which is why we need a way to manage our time better.
Time Management and business are integrated, but in today's world it is important to have the required skills to excel in every part of life. For managers, it is certainly important to manage their time efficiently to be successful. An absence of effective time management can have a negative impact on projects in the long run. In most cases time is money. Ineffective time management can also lead to stress and frustration within the individuals working.
Are you always short of time? Do you ever hope that you had more than 24 hours in a day? Well, if you make a list of things which contributes to your inefficient time management, you will find a monster in it -Procrastination!
Procrastination has become one of the most considerable hurdle for professionals and individuals alike in managing time. The word procrastination comes from the Latin word, ‘Pro’ meaning “in favour of” and ‘Cras’ meaning “tomorrow”. It is defined as “The act or the habit of delaying or putting things off’. No doubt it is a one-way ticket to stress, guilt and overwhelm.
Mark Twain once said that “if the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that it is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long!” He says, our " frog " is our biggest, " most important task ", and the one we are most likely to procrastinate on, if we don't do something about it. It might be the one task that can have the greatest positive impact on our life and results.
The key to achieve happiness, satisfaction, a wonderful feeling of personal power and effectiveness is for us to develop the habit of eating our ‘frog’ first thing in the morning before we start our work. This is a learnable skill and can be acquired through practice.
A lot of bad things can happen when you procrastinate. You don’t learn to discipline yourself, your work suffers, and you get stressed out. Procrastination is treacherous, you fool yourself by thinking up reasons to wait more and more. The worst thing is that procrastination is easy to stop, you just need to quit being lazy and make up your mind to get it done.
